Then this tour is designed for you. It’s a bespoke, private tour, designed to give you the freedom to make your way down the Mary River at your own pace.
Whisk past lush flood plains or get up close and personal to see who’s lurking in the mangroves. Both fresh and saltwater crocodiles inhabit these areas and there is no shortage on display.
Along the banks, the birdlife is plentiful and species can include Jabiru, White Bellied Sea Eagles, Cranes, Magpie Geese, Whistling Ducks and Pelicans to mention but a few.
During your wildlife spotting experience, your guide will take you along the river and tell you about the animals and their habitats. This tour allows for a maximum of 4 people and ensures there is plenty of time to investigate nooks along the river and line up that perfect photo.

You will be wildlife spotting adventure takes place at Shady Camp, located on the Mary River, approximately 2.5hrs drive from Darwin.
Your tour will include 4WD transfers for up to 4 people to and from Shady camp on the day of fishing from Darwin CBD and surrounds. For additional people, a bus will be arranged and additional costs apply.
Self-driving to Shady Camp is easy and stress-free. After leaving the airport, you head along the Arnhem Highway, which is a long a smooth journey that will take you to the Point Stuart Road turnoff. After a 40kms on Point Stuart Road, you will hit a graded dirt road, which you should follow for a further 10kms which then turns left and directly towards Shady Camp for another 15kms. Shady Camp has free parking, camping and toilet facilities.

When self-driving from Darwin to Shady Camp, there are 2 petrol stations on the Arnhem Highway. The first is Corroboree Park Tavern and the second The Bark Hut Inn (check for opening date). If driving from Jabiru, we recommend refuelling before leaving as the closest petrol station is Corroboree Park Tavern. There are no petrol or store facilities at Shady Camp or close by.
